Standard Pvr

Although I was informed that the DSTV Standard PVR are being phased out and support are no longer available and that one will have to upgrade to the Explorer decoder, I find it very strange and disconcearning that separate StPVR decoders rescanned at the same time yesterday(27/08/17). I can understand that frequent rescanning can be the result of the said decoder nearing the end of its life and one will have to make a change. But this rescan was more or less at the same time and even the rescan progress was spot on. I was told by an installer that they have come across this too. My question is this: What are the chances of Multichoice sending out an inbedded signal in the DSTV signal to make the StPVR rescan and by doing this forcing people to upgrade? This could also have been done during one of the updates that one has to perform from time to time.
