Runaway Account

Two payments made by myself months ago (in July and August) were rejected this month (October). DSTV has now suspended my service and is insisting that I pay them R2,500.

It is unclear to me why the payments were successful, but I can confirm that it was not due to lack of funds. It was in all likelihood some sort of technical error. This was out of my control obviously.

If the payments were unsuccessful, why did DSTV not disconnect my service back then? I would have been made aware of the problem and rectified it immediately.

Now they are coming at me months later and demanding full payment? How am I supposed to clear this all in one month?

I spent half an hour on the phone to one of their call centre agents trying to explain the problem. The agent was unable / unwilling to attend to this query. Her response was simply \just pay up".

To me this highlights the dangers of a company having a full monopoly over a market. They simply do as they please with a complete disregard for customer service. The South African consumer must just take it up the tailpipe and keep paying."""
