PVR users forced into Explora upgrade (at a cost!)

I had a fully funtioning PVR decoder (all cabling and software updates in perfect condition). Almost overnight the PVR functionality started to malfunction. Couldn't access playlists, box-office, menu displays became extremely slow.

Spoke to a Multichoice consultant that advised the PVR be taken to Randburg for testing. There we were advised that they no longer service the PVR and that we had to pay in to purchase the Explora.

The eerie thing is that this has happened to so many of my family members and friends over this past 2 month period. We initially thought it could be related to the power cuts - but we all stay so far apart that it just doesn't seem plausible. All of a sudden our new and functioning PVR's stop working and we are informed we have to upgrade to Explora AND PAY!!!

Can we please have someone investigate this? Maybe Carte Blanche?

And could someone from Multichoice please contact me to solve this issue.

Hello missacb,

Please be advised if your SD PVR is still working, you can keep using it to access DStv services. If the decoder stops working, they can bring the old decoder and smartcard to one of the MultiChoice Walk-in Centres to trade it in for a new decoder at a discounted price.

We, currently have a special offer in place. If they bring in their SD PVR view decoder when it stops working (along with their smartcard), we'll give them the DStv Explora at R1 699 (that's a R300 discount on the normal purchase price).

Even if a customer's decoder is working today, it's a good idea for them to plan to replace it in the near future. Customers can choose not to take action and only replace their decoder when it stops working.
