Not informed of pricing change

We have paid Multichoice R198.00 per month for the family package for several months already. We normally pay cash at a supermarket and was told that the package cost R198.00 by the cashier. After paying R198.00 for August, however, our DSTV was cut off. When my mother phoned Multichoice customer service on Sunday evening, she was told that the family package costs R199.00. They restored our service temporarily after my mother promised that she will pay a R235.00 reconnection fee today.

I told her not to pay this amount and I would not have agreed to this payment if I spoke to customer service, but my mother is elderly and easily flustered. If the price for the family package was always R199, why were our service not discontinued months ago? We received no communication from Multichoice telling us of a price increase and the cashier at Checkers (were we paid) did not tell us about it either. I also think having to pay R235.00 for paying R1 too little is outrageous. How does Multichoice normally communicate price changes to customers?
