No pensioner discounts

I have just enquired about discounted pensioner rates and been told that these are only given to people who stay in old age homes. It is absolutely outrageous that they discriminate based on residence. In fact, I will be investigating further as I do not see how this type of ************** can be constitutionally valid. I am absolutely disgusted, especially as the monthly premium has just rocketed by 9% compared with the much lower increase in government pensions. The notification e-mail (which by the way quotes a monthly rate R100 lower than I will be charged), blames the high increase on a weaker currency. Will Multichoice then reduce the premiums once the Rand strengthens or will such an improvement merely result in higher bonuses for management and higher dividends for shareholders?

Hello Karla Barla,

Please accept our apology for the delayed response.

We have not yet found a sustainable method to manage private pensioner discounts. Our investigations show that this is manageable only if offered to a controlled environment such at the Retirement Village.

While the plight of pensioners is a concern to all of us at MultiChoice, we can't guarantee that only pensioners will use the DStv service. For this reason, we can only manage to offer a commercial subscription to multi-unit retirement villages as a whole. In this way, pensioners can get their DStv services at a reduced rate.

We review our subscription fees at the end of our financial year and take into account all factors. The strength of the rand is just one factor we need to consider when we review our subscription fees (which happens at the end of our financial year). There are many other variables - we can only make an informed decision based on the situation at that time.

Should you require any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contacts us.

Thank you for taking your time to contact us.

Kind regards
Dinah
