My SD Decoder no longer works.
I have a DSTV SD and an HD decoder which I have had for many years, which is now rebooting continuously thus being unable to view programs without interruption of rebooting. I have reported this on various occasions to DSTV after having spoken to qualified installers who have adviced me that DSTV does not do run the supporting software for the SD decoder anymore. DSVT have acknowledged this fact and have on many occasions tried to convince me to purchase the new Explorer decoder, which I have refused due to the fact that it will cost me more and cannot give me the same functionality as the SD decoder. The rebooting on the SD decoder is especially high during prime time viewing which I feel is manipulation from DSTV inforcing me to replace the SD decoder. I am paying for a service which they are not fully providing and can no longer provide according to them. If it is necessary to upgrade to the Explorer due to their software faults they should replace the SD free of charge and I should not be liable for any increase in charges.

MultiChoice’s aim is to give our customers an evolving (and better) viewing experience. To this end, we regularly launch new channels and services, but these can be quite demanding on your hardware.
Your decoder has gone through various life cycles, starting with when it’s new and fully capable, to when it’s nearing time for replacement, which is now. Some decoders have been classified as “end of support” since November 2014, this includes your SD PVBR decoder.
They don’t have the processing power and memory to deal with our new services. This means your viewing will be impacted as you won’t be able to get some of our channels or you will experience freeze-ups.
We are not able to service these decoders as parts are no longer.
If you are still using one of these decoders, find out what trade-in options are available.
You can, however, trade-in* your active SD PVR at any of our service centres or agencies. There are a few trade-in options for you.
Trade-in option 1 : get a brand new DStv Explora 2 for only R799 (the normal retail price is R1299). This excludes installation, so please chat to your local DStv Accredited Installer about any potential installation changes required.
Trade-in option 2 : get a DStv Explora 2 PLUS installation (with 80cm dish and DStv Smart LNB) for R999. This option is only suitable if you are able to make use of your own satellite dish.
Trade-in option 3 : get a DStv Explora 2 PLUS DStv HD Decoder PLUS installation (with 80cm dish & DStv Smart LNB) for R1999. This option is only suitable for customers who are able to make use of their own satellite dish.
Trade-in option 4 : get a new DStv Explora PLUS a DStv HD single view decoder PLUS installation and free delivery for only R79 per month (over 24 months). This offer is subject to a credit check and is only available on debit order. Also, it is only suitable if you are able to make use of your own satellite dish.
