Multichoice Account Problem

I would like to complain about Multichoice, stating the following:

- Our account with Multichoice is in the name of my partner, Lammie Marx;

- He doesn’t pay our monthly subscription with a debit order, but with a monthly eft payment since he is a general medical practitioner and his income is randomly received;

- It sometimes happens that our subscriptions are paid later than due dates, but we always pay at least in the first week of a new month;

- For March, we had to pay a little over R1,000.00 (not sure why…perhaps interest or even an amount short paid last month maybe);

- Anyhow, Lammie paid late for March - R600.00 on 15 March from Standard Bank and two days later, R500.00 from ABSA – in total thus a little more than the due amount;

- Last night, just after 19:00 our service was cut – since he was at his orchestra practice, he could only phone them with the details on his return at about 22:30;

- He spoke to a lady (Penelope Nembulunge) who informed that the R600.00 was reversed (weird, nothing on Lammies’ bank statement and furthermore it was an eft, not a debit order!);

- Lammie ASKED for proof, but Penelope just stated that ‘she could not provide any form of proof that the payment was reversed’. He explained to her that he could not phone his bank, making allegations without proof. The assumed ‘reversal’ does not reflect on his bank statement and it would be an exercise in futility to take up a well renowned financial institution like Standard Bank, making accusations for which there is no proof (no need even to mention sufficient funds at the time and also currently in his bank…);

- Penelope then insisted Lammie e-mail Multicoice his bank statements, which he obviously refused to do – is that really their practice to operate in this manner?

- She nonetheless sent a statement to my e-mail address (on their records since it is the private e-mail address for both of us) to be taken up by Lammie with the bank (?) and restored connection, BUT conveniently again cut it exactly at 23:00 – when the office closed!

- Therefore no service currently!

How is it possible that an amount can be reversed by Multichoice, WITHOUT any proof by the bank to do so and while an eft- payment was made by my partner?

In short:

- AN EFT CANNOT BE REVERSED;

- MY PARTNER HAD TO GET A LETTER ROM THE BANK THIS MORNING, CONFIRMING THAT THERE WAS NO REVERSAL FROM THEIR SIDE, IN ORDER TO BE SENT TO THEM;

- IT INDEED SEEMS THAT THERE ARE ALLOCATION PROBLEMS IN THEIR FINANCE DEPARTMENT.

We would like to have this resolved asap.

Thanks a lot - I hope that this won't be a reocurrence in future.

PLEASE remember - we ONLY pay via eft (or cash) and it CANNOT be reversed by a bank- PLEASE ensure that your financial department is aware of this. Next time around we will have to use social media, as well as the press, to emphasize the problems experienced and the inability to get this resolved by calling your offices. It is a huge frustration if people are unable to understand the problem.

Nonetheless, we appreciate the resolvement of this issue and the quick response on this platform. Thanks also to Mandy and Brenda at your offices for all their efforts to help to resolve the problem.
