Harassing a 83 year old for R 141.05

Good day,

On 16/02/2019 we went to the Multichoice service centre in Centurion, Pretoria to cancel my grandmother’s account.

On the same day everything (subscription and insurance) was cancelled and signed in store, and I opened an account on my name.

In 2020, my grandmother of 83 started receiving the following sms’s:

TCR are authorized by Multichoice to collect the outstanding balance on your DStv account. Please pay R141.05 to settle your balance. You can pay here https://payat.io/dstv/7164 or call us on *** for payment options. Thank you

I phoned the number on 13/03/2020 @ 15:32 and spoke to Jenny. I explained to her that my grandmother’s contract was cancelled. She said that she will make a note and escalate the matter for the R 141.05 to be written off. According to her, the R 141.05 was for insurance and there was a backlog in insurance department which led to the arrears amount.

I phone back on 20/03/2020 3 times to make sure that the matter has been resolved. I spoke to Enrique who said it has been escalated and feedback will be given when finalised. I then phoned back and spoke to Kelegigile who said I must phone back in a week. I phoned back again and spoke to Monique who said that there is no package or insurance amount due.

For the past 3-4 months my grandmother has been receiving these sms’s again.

I phoned TCR and spoke to Thabang on 20/04/2021. He then stated that the R 141.05 is for pro-rata package subscription- where I was previously told it was for insurance? This also does not make sense as you pay subscription fees for the service “up-front”. When I opened my account in mid-February, I had to pay pro rata subscription on that day to be able to view anything until my next debit order. My grandmother’s account was paid for February 2019, it was cancelled before the month ended, so there should not be any subscription outstanding. But with the previous persons I spoke to, it was stated that it was for insurance?

Thabang then told me that he doesn’t know what happened and that I must go to the service centre and find out what happened. THE SERVICE CENTRE IS CLOSED. Where do you instruct a client to go sort out a company’s negligence??

I was willing to pay the R 141.05 on behalf of my grandmother just to get you off her back as these sms’s causes her a lot of stress, but with this poor service and lack of willingness to sort out a query I am not even sure if the money will be allocated correctly and in a year’s time I will sit with the same nonsense. What guarantee do I have that it will be resolved and you will stop harassing my grandmother?
