Giving you viewing for free, but you need to pay.

So we are on the DSTV premium package. Due to some bad experience we had on monthly debit orders, we decided to manually make a payment each month. If you do not make a payment by the 1st of each month, they disconnect your DSTV until such payment has been received. We frequently forget to make payments on time so we do know that this is true. The last time we got disconnected on the 1st was about 3 months ago.

Okay so nothing wrong with that, right. Now in January we were out of the country and we decided to only make a payment for the month of February as we could save more than R800 and we will just pay the penalty of R90 to activate our account again as per the sms received. So last night we made the payment for the month of February and phoned in to ask if they could activate our account. To our disbelief they informed us that DSTV gives you viewing until the 17th of each month, wait for it, FOR "FREE" (which from our experience is utter nonsense). We therefore need to make an additional payment of R400 and something rand in addition to the monthly payment of R850 as they claimed we had viewing until the 17th of Jan for free. How on earth does this make sense?? You need to pay for something that is “free”??? And what nonsense is this that you have viewing until the 17th when we clearly didn’t have viewing until the 17th three months ago?? Extremely disappointed at a company who forms part of Naspers and have this ridiculous policy that doesn’t make sense at all. How can free and you pay even be in the same sentence?

Sorry but what I do not understand is in your reply you are indirectly confirming what I am trying to say. You say we need to pay R1272.24 to keep the service active till 28 February 2017. (Not until the 17th of March) Therefore you pay R860 to have viewing for one month? So we paid R860 in the beginning of December to have viewing until 31 December 2016. We didn't pay to have viewing until January the 17th? Why should we pay R408 if DSTV decided they giving us viewing until the 17th of January? (we can't even confirm whether this is true as we were not at home and from previous experiencfe you NEVER gave viewing until the 17th). Obviously this is not our fault?
When I buy something and it's valid for 30 days and the company didn't cut my services after 30 days, they surely can't hold me liable to pay more for something I didn't ask for or even use?

O yes, I forgot to mention that on the 6th of January 2016 we received a message stating that we need to pay R844 on that day otherwise you are suspending our account. We normally get these messages on the 1st so I assume your accounts department was on holiday and therefore this is not our problem the service remained active until whenever. Please send us the contract where we signed that we will be liable for such costs. My email address is ********** .
