Formal Complaint Regarding Channel Cancellations and Lack of Fee Adjustment-Multichoice

I am writing this message as a long-standing and loyal DStv subscriber to formally express my deep dissatisfaction and concern regarding the reported cancellation of approximately 12 to 16 channels from the DStv platform.

It has come to my attention, through recent reporting by IOL, that MultiChoice South Africa has indicated there will be no reduction or adjustment to monthly subscription fees, despite these channel removals. The justification offered — that subscribers will “continue to have access to a broad range of entertainment, sport, news and lifestyle content” — is both disappointing and dismissive of customer concerns.

Many of the channels reportedly scheduled to be removed by 31 December 2025 are channels that I, and countless other subscribers, actively watch. This raises a very simple and valid question: what value remains for subscribers once these channels are gone? Local nonsense?? No thank you.

I do not believe it is reasonable or acceptable to expect customers to continue paying between R1,200 and R1,300 per month for significantly reduced content offerings, particularly when much of what remains is content of limited interest to many viewers.

The apparent indifference reflected in MultiChoice’s public statements comes across as arrogant and out of touch with the reality faced by paying subscribers. Loyalty should not be taken for granted. Thousands of South African subscribers are already reassessing their subscriptions, and many — myself included — are seriously considering cancelling DStv should these changes proceed without meaningful pricing adjustments.

Please understand this message is not written in expectation of a response. Rather, it serves as a clear and direct statement of how many long-term customers feel and the actions we are prepared to take. Continued disregard for subscriber value and satisfaction will inevitably result in significant customer loss.

This is not a threat — it is a warning grounded in reality.
