Forcing me to sign a contract

I have just been told that DSTV will be upgrading there systems and my DSTV PVR will not work soon. They have offered me a deal that if I sign a contract for the next 24 months at R169.00 a month over an above the R814 I am currently paying they will put in a new decoder in for me otherwise in a few months my decoder will not work and I will not be able to get DSTV.

I think R814 I am currently paying for DSTV is high but will not be forced to pay another R169 for the same service that I am currently getting with my PVR.

After 20 odd years of being a client of DSTV I will cancel my contract rather and get Netflicks rather than being bul**** into a contract for a service that I have already got.

Hello Davidmilne123,

We would like to sincerely apologise for the delay and any inconvenience caused.

MultiChoice will not be able to repair the SD PVR decoder as the parts are not available any more. Also, these decoders can't cope with the growing number of DStv services on offer, even though they were able to many years ago. We will also not be able to continue to support the software on these decoders.

While your SD PVR is still working, you can keep accessing DStv without having to do anything. It's only when your decoder stops working, or when we launch the new satellite, that you'll need to take action.

When your decoder stops working, you can bring it to one of the MultiChoice Walk-in Centres to trade for a newer model decoder at a reduced price. We're currently offering the DStv Explora at R1 699 (that's a R300 discount on the normal purchase price).
