DSTV (Walka subscription)
I have been a loyal DSTV supported for over 15 years and has purchased a Walka in order to watch the SS2 mainly as I follow cricket but to my dismay, I watching the game between India & England when this E19-4 error popped.
Couldn't reset via my cellphone so I called in, surprisingly was answered within 1 min, a first for me. maybe it is because of the number of clients that DSTV is losing to other entrants in the market that they service is now a bit better or was it just my lucky day. Anyway as helpful as the consultant was, he couldn't reset the error and advised that I take to the nearest branch.
Went the Smith Street branch, Durban, was attended to by Londiwe, her first question before I could one was, was I aware that the Walka is no longer supported and that the towers are coming down ?
It is the first that I am hearing about it, I have never received any communique so how am I supposed to know. Co-incidentally, I received my updated insurance document yesterday and noticed that only my normal decoder was on it so I wrote to DSTV enquiring why only device is covered by you have taken subscription for September already, this is the response that I received ...

From: JayanS Date: 12/09/2018 10:16 AM To: ********** Subject: [EXTERNAL] FW: Your DStv Decoder Insurance Confirmation Good morning, I have two decoders which I have been regularly paying for however document only shows one. Where is the reference to my walker ? Regards Jayan M Singh
I have request Londiwe to reserve the insurance and subscription costs which I was given verbal confirmation was attended to.
So my question is, What happens to my Walka ? how am I going to be compensated for it ? Does DSTV knows what it is doing as clearly not all staff are aware. Yes, the insurance might be underwritten by a 3rd party, the conflicting and half-baked information leaves a lot to be desired about the future of DSTV.

We are aware of the technical problem on our DStv mobile devices. Our technical team is working to resolve this problem as soon as possible. Signal is being sent to devices on an hourly basis to clear this error.
When MultiChoice launched its mobile TV service in 2010, the technology was fresh and new. Over the last few years, technologies and standards have evolved as broadband access continues to grow. This has resulted in the supply of our mobile TV devices becoming limited.
However, we have not communicated that we are doing a complete shut down of mobile services and any communication around this will communicated in due course and the way forward around customers that still use DStv mobile devices like the Walka 7.
Should you wish to reinstate the device please confirm and we will escalate this to our technical department for further assistance.
Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us send an email to *** .
