Dstv ultra

I recently purchased a DSTV ultra decoder. Like most people, this was because it is advertised as an all in one solution offering the consumer The benefit of still having DSTV as well as enjoying showmax, YouTube, Netflix etc as you will see from the adverti*****ts below

To my surprise, The streaming applications require you to have a 98% Signal on tuner 3 which is one of the tuners on DSTV. If you do not have this signal The applications miraculously disappear. As you can see from the adverti*****ts in the above, this is definitely not mentioned.

There is no logical explanation for such implementation. The only reason one can think of is that multichoice does not want you to use the decoder as a streaming device. This to, does not make sense. If one wanted a streaming device there are so many other options available.

Customers experiencing poor signal due to inclement weather or anything else, Will simply have the applications mysteriously disappear.

Remember, these applications require an Internet connection to stream content. DSTV has just made it very difficult for its customers.

I have contacted them and they had provided a very weak response simply telling me that this is how it is configured and they will contact the sales people to change the script when it is being sold.

In my opinion this is false advertising

I have received two phone calls from the date I posted this review.. The first one was on the day of the review. The person I spoke to Promise to get back to me however, could not answer any of my questions. They only told me that they understand.

The second call I got was today. with the exact same response in a nutshell.

The bottom line is this. Netflix and YouTube are streaming apps that require an Internet connection they have nothing to do with the receiving signal from a satellite dish.. You have decided to make this part of your service without informing the customers.. If you don’t have High quality satellite signal, you don’t have Netflix or YouTube. I deliberately left out show max because that application belongs to you..

This is really unfair to the customers..
I have stated in previous communications that the only reason I think this was done it’s because multichoice feels that customers may use this as a smart TV box. I don’t know hence my constant questions.

We would not buy the DSTV ultra if we wanted to use it as a smart TV box
I hope someone can answer my question
