DSTV: Sorry seems to be the hardest word!!!

Good day,

I have had the worst experience with DSTV. On 31 January 2017, I called in to the DSTV call centre and requested to cancel my Walker subscription as my actual device is broken. The agent assured me that the service has been cancelled and I received an SMS confirming this.

To my horror on 03 February 2017 the direct debit for the service came off my bank account! So, I sent a message to DSTV from the website yesterday and still not response. This morning I called to be informed that the service was not actually cancelled although I was made to believe that it was. I know have to wait 14 days to be refunded even though when I was debited it came off immediately and I cannot really be sure that the service has been cancelled unless I follow up. This speaks to the whole reason why I am complaining. Although it may not be a significant amount of money, it is the principle. I as a customer have been inconvenienced, yet I have to follow up and I have to prove that I incurred bank charges because of DSTV's mess and I have to wait for my refund. No apology or accountability from DSTV. It is most unfair and smacks of a “poor service delivery” culture. It shows that monopoly businesses are merely interested in the bottom line at the expense of customers.

I am extremely disappointed in the manner with which I was handled and would like to understand why all of this has happened and why my issue was not dealt with to begin with.
