DSTV re discriminatory Pensioner discount

It appears that only pensioners living in Old Age Homes may receive Pensioner's discount, as told to me by Innocentia by telephone today! This is totally discriminatory for people who cannot afford to live in an OAH. My husband & I are in are both over 70 years old but do not qualify for pensioner discount.

Dear Anna Forbes

Kindly note that we offer a discount to registered retirement villages, but at present do not offer a discount to private homes.

Please be advised that the plight of pensioners is a concern to all of us at MultiChoice, we have however, not found a method to manage discounts for pensioners successfully at this stage.

We understand the concerns of our senior subscribers and try our best to keep our subscription rates as low as possible. While we have investigated the possibility of offering pensioners a discount, it has proved impossible to find a model and administering system that is not open to abuse.

Regards

Elna

Sorry, I find your response to be unacceptable. SABC offers pensioner discount, so why can't DSTV pensioner subscribers? Recently, a friend told me that, due to not be able to afford your Premium rate, he cancelled his DSTV subscription. Shortly afterwards he received a telephone call offering him nearly a 50% discount for restoring his Premium service in order not to lose him as a subscriber! I have been an EXTREMELY long-term subscriber, but have never been offered any loyalty discount, yet alone a pensioner discount!

Re: 'We understand the concerns of our senior subscribers and try our best to keep our subscription rates as low as possible. All that MultiChoice/DSTV admin needs is an avidavit, from pensioner subscribers, stating that it is only them using the service from the registered decoder(s) and that any change of this will be immediately advised. Telkom & SABC offer pension discount, so what's your problem DSTV? In addition, the hospitality industry is able to chose its programs to show, yet we private subscribers are not given this facility. You have the software, so stop ripping us off by making us pay for all the channels, which we never watch! Be aware that internet has mulitple software for us to watch whatever TV programs we want on our smart screens. This has now become a very attractive option which is a far more economical option.

Dear Anna Forbes

We value our long standing customers and appreciate their support over the years. A DStv decoder can be easily moved from one location to another and we cannot verify whether the user of that decoder is a pensioner.

We are therefore concerned that this is easily open to abuse and we might end up with the decoder being used by any person other than a pensioner.

As a result, we decided to offer pensioner discounts to customers who live in retirement villages, where the body corporate subscribes for the entire village.

Telkom offers pensioner's discount & whenever they are contacted you have to provide your name, ID, street address & cell phone number. When a DSTV decoder is moved to another place it has to be activated there, so why aren't the user's verification details requested then? Should a pensioner's decoder need to be repaired/replaced then the DSTV approved agent should be instructed to verify the user thus obviating the possibility of usager abuse. Your agents are able to access all decoder ownership information! When a decoder is sold to another person, I understand that DSTV has to be informed? How could the new user open an account without DSTV being aware of it?
