DSTV prejudices current loyal Premium Price Lock contract customers in their new package deals

DSTV have announced that effective from 17 September 2026, their Premium package would be R799 per month, down from the current price of R949. Good for some but not for others. I am a long time customer of the Company, every two years renewing my Price Lock contract. In July this year my contract came up for renewal. As I was disappointed with the programme selection, some of my favourites having been taken off and the number of repeats increasing, I wavered about committing to a further two years, but being a loyal customer and eternal optimist, I thought the new owners improve their offerings of programmes I would like, so renewed my contract for a further two years at R949 per month. However, DSTV refuse to lower the price for loyal customers with current contracts with Premium and Easy View packages. We will have to carry on paying the elevated prices until our contacts end, in my case for 22 months, costing me an additional R3300 over this period as compared to new customers. Loyalty should work both ways, but the new owners don't seems to believe in this fundamental of customer relations. When it comes to my renewal in July 2028 (I am committed till then with no escape)| and unless there has been a a significant improvement in the programme offerings am I likely to renew my contract? Unlikely! Forgotten is the old adage "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush".
