DStv MultiChoice Unfairly Listed Me At Credit Bureau
I have cancelled/deactivated my account with MultiChoice on the 2nd February 2024. Upon my telephone communication while deactivating, I was never informed that I have to pay some money and whenever I use their WhatsApp to check if it really was deactivated, it always showed I owe R0.00 amount.
However, when I checked my credit record in July 2024, I discovered that they have listed this account as in arrears. After contacting them, they always tell me the Team Leader will call me and even give the time they will call. This happened on numerous occasions until I forced the consultant to look for answers while I'm waiting on the line. Even so, it was either the Team Leader is on the meeting or busy elsewhere. I then asked how much do I owe, and after they told me, they advised me to take up an instalment option which I rejected and paid in full just to clear all this. I have asked them since, to help remove that negative information at credit bureaus as it was unfair practice. They never informed me that I owed them money, they have my number, email address and even my home address. I know this because upon authenticating, they ask me to confirm my personal information comparing it with what they have in front of them, my email address and phone number included.
This is unfair practice and against the consumer protection act, as it states “I have the right to information” especially pertaining credit bureau information. Even when I contacted Experian to log a dispute against this, I have been told to directly contact MultiChoice which I have been trying to with absolutely no success. This is really frustrating as this will stay against my name for the next 24 months, just for a DStv account I deactivated. And my statement from them confirms that the account has been deactivated since February 2024.

What I ask from you is to totally remove the arrears update from credit bureau as if it never existed. As I have said, you have acted unjustly and unfair. You have never made a single attempt to be inform me that even after disconnecting an account, I was still liable for payment. You didn’t do so when I called on the 2nd February 2024 only to list as in arrears in July. Why not from February?
I have the right to information and you failed to supply me with such information and just placed my account on credit bureau as in arrears. This is totally unacceptable. I am requesting you to remove such information against my name on credit bureau.
