After deciding not to renew my Price lock contract I notified DSTV (before the contract expired) that I would not be renewing or make use of their service anymore. Two months later I get a call from a company contracted to Multichoice, informing me that I was handed over to collections due to an outstanding amount which was supposedly not settled AND that this would affect my personal credit rating negatively. Now, First of all, I was never contacted by DSTV accounts department or any representative for that matter in an attempt to resolve this matter. I would have had no problem settling an account if I was informed and made aware of the situation as I am an honest tax paying South African citizen. After I phoned DSTV to inquire about this distasteful situation the consultant looked into my account and it was established that "the system" never updated at the time I cancelled Multichoice's services and I was charged for services mounting up to a certain date and amount. I strongly feel that this situation was caused due to human error and is just another prime example of incompetence. Multichoice's incompetence potentially damaged my credit rating. My next course of action is to hand this matter over to a lawyer and to take the matter up with the South African consumer council. As a word of advice, please retain all correspondence with DSTV / Multichoice, it will only be to your advantage should you encounter similar incidents as I have. Try to keep all communication on email. You can also try to obtain copies of your telephonic discussions with the consultants as al calls are recorded.
