Whenever it rains, certain channels on dstv does not play. So I tried getting hold of the installer of the explora decoder. Unfortunately he does not answer his cell phone. In fact his number does not work anymore.
So eventually I called the contact centre in JHB. Only to be told that what we are experiencing is normal weather interruption. The team leader Thabang says that even he has the same problem.
What I fail to understand is how I can pay dstv R899.00 every month without fail but that they can tell me that if the weather is bad, then we will not have a signal. But some channels play fine without any interruption. Other channels have signal problems. Dstv is lying to me!!!
Now Thabang has given me the numbers of other installers because he says it could be an installation problem. Davy refuses to accept any responsibility.
They lie, they ***** our money and blame the weather for it.

DStv: Hello Peter Team
Best regards,
Good day Kevin
I fully understand your concern in this regard and thank you for pointing it out.
Please understand that rain fade can occur due to weather at reception of signal or at the source causing rain fade. You shouldn’t experience any problems with your signal if the sky is overcast or if there is drizzle or normal rainfall.
Satellite signals travels in an open space become weaker as they pass through raindrops. This is a law of physics that is, regrettably, beyond our control (and which no satellite company in the world has been able to get around). Signal interruptions may occur during heavy downpours – this is unfortunately a feature on all satellite systems worldwide.
Secondly, the location of the storm is important. Even though the storm may not be in your area, storms in other locations (basically, any place where our signals originate and transmit to and from) can still affect your signal. Investing in a larger dish may also help prevent some signal loss
We recommend that your dish size be 80cm on Ku-Band. If you’re having problems under these circumstances, then your dish isn’t optimally installed or properly fine-tuned. It is for this reason you should contact a DStv Accredited Installer to rectify the problem.
Once again, thank you for your invaluable support.
Kind regards
Dinah
