DSTV - GO TV decoder (old MNET package)

We are on the original MNET package when they first became operational - MNET and 2 sports channels. Never had the desire to upgrade to different package. In 2018 we were advised via a message on screen (generic message that displays on the screen) we need to contact MultiChoice because there is a change. So it seems our original package was "contracted to" Go-TV. A new GO-TV decorder was installed and we continued to watch. Since the start the screen will freeze periodically and the channel also defaults to a original Go TV adverti*****t channel daily (which was very frustrating) because you have to set the channel daily to ensure you record correctly if you were not home. Followed up with Multi Choice and we were told that nothing can be done and that is how the Go-TV decoder works. So we left it and continued. Now about 1 week back, the freezing of the screen became so bad that it is simply impossible to watch anything on MNET/ Sports channels. So we phone Multi Choice helpline - now need to take the decoder into their service centre in Edenvale. Give us directions to Stonehill Crossing shopping centre. Drove there simply to find out, they have moved - whereto nobody knows. Phone Multichoice helpdesk again, to get an address in Terrace Road Edenvale. Drive there, shop is empty. Finally succeeded to locate them in Eastleigh. So today decoder in hand we went there simply to be met very a very rude attitude of one of the ladies behind the counter. First we were told, this specific decoder were decommissioned 2 years back already and no support exists for it - so they will not test it for us. Secondly we were told that we need to get a new decoder so we ask which one and they said DSTV decoder and you need to choose a new package. So upon asking which package has MNET and sport channels - of course the most expensive package is given. So we cancelled the package in total. We have been on this contract for 20+ years paying religiously on monthly basis. We were not even informed on changes being made to this package or the decoder. Lucky we opted not to take insurance on the decoder - we would have paid every month for a decoder which is outdated anyway and cannot be replaced. To say least - we are extremely disappointed in this service. 1) No notice to say the decoders are out dated 2) No notice to say the package are discontinued (because I do believe this is indeed the case and perhaps the way they manage it) 3) Rude attitude of the lady behind the counter that was not interested in customer service at all 4) And then the lady at MultiChoice helpdesk (phoned them when we got home) could not even tell us what is the status of our "line". Total confusion. So good riddance - my money will not be spent at DSTV again.
