DSTV failure to deliver but happy to take the money
DSTV is not worth the one star rating. For the past 4 weeks we have been given the run around by DSTV. Let me start at the beginning, 4 weeks ago I took my explorer plus my 2 xtraview decoders in to the walk in center at N1 City because the hard drive on my explorer would not record. Let me add, at that time I was receiving perfect picture from all 3 decoders. They promptly replaced the explorer and suggested they replace both xtraview decoders with the latest model. We got home and both xtraviews showed error message E 143. Countless hours on the phone could not resolve the issue. A week later went back to the walk in center at N1 City and was told the decoders are working, the fault is on our side and and we should get an installer to come look at our installation. I booked an installer, he came out, adjusted my 2 month old LNB and showed me that I had a stonger signal. He phoned for authorisation and we had xtraview viewing for 1 night only and after that the E 143 message. He also advised me that my dish was old and the plastic on the joints was brittle and everytime the wind blows we would lose signal and would have to replace our dish in the near future. We told him to fit a new dish at his earliest convenience. The very same week he fitted a new aluminium dish, spent more than an hour on the phone and could not get the error message resolved. That night we got through to a manager in Gauteng who promised to email us with a resolution, he spoke to the installer and today, 3 weeks later, no email. We tried phoning him, nobody knows who he is. Countless more calls from both us and the installer got a call from Gauteng to ask if the matter was resolved and on hearing no, said they would send an email to seek advice. Never heard from her again. We took all 3 decoders back and they assured us it’s working, the error is on our side. Countless more phone calls, still nothing. A week ago, took the decoders back again, could not see the manager, was told no manager was on duty on a weekend and had to settle for a supervisor who once again insisted the fault was in our installation. She would not take the telephone number of the installer to ask him for his accreditation number and what the problem was and what all he tried to resolve the matter. She only wanted his invoice. We emailed her that the installer was back on the Monday, installed a new LNB, spent an inordinate amount of time on the phone and still E 143. According to DSTV they will force the installer to come out and complete his installation. My question is how much of his time must he spend trying to fix something beyond him and DSTV customer technical service. Who is going to compensate him for his time. This request and the manner in which it is done has raised red flags. I countered this as ********* behaviour on their part. She stopped answering our emails. Still cannot get to speak to a manager at N1 City. We have spent hundreds of rands on phone calls, thousands on a new dish and cannot get DSTV to resolve the issue. The irony is 31 years ago, my wife got what was then M Net for my enjoyment, never missed a month and this is the way we get treated. Either there is a real problem that they know about and cannot resolve or they just don’t care. DSTV is happy to take our money knowing they are not providing us with everything we are paying for.
