DSTV EXPLORA INSTALLATION SHAMBLE!!!

DSTV EXPLORA INSTALLATION SHAMBLE!!!

About three weeks ago I bought a DSTV Explora to replace an old damaged decoder that was on extra view in one of the bedrooms and had it installed. The primary decoder is also an Explora and ever since I installed the second Explora there have been issues with both decoders. An E48-32 notification is given by both decoders which makes viewing a difficulty.

On Monday the DSTV Technicians came through for a Check and Rectify call out which costed me R350, they then left saying they needed a smart LNB to be installed. I was surprised that initially the primary decoder worked without a problem before the 2nd Explora was installed and without any LNB; because if there was one why would they need to install one?, which is what every Explora should be installed with or in as far as I know.

They then returned on Tuesday (Different Technicians this time) and installed the LNB for which I paid R1000 for but still the problem persisted. The decoders were then taken to DSTV Maponya Mall on that Tuesday on the advise of the technicians and the brand new one was replaced as it was on warranty.

Both decoders were then reconnected and still the problem persisted though the decoders were in good working condition. Since the beginning of the week different technicians have been in and out and no one has been able to track down the problem, what's worse is that they didn't even bother to call the call center even on my advice to find out what could be the problem.

They would come late in the evening, too tired to even bother themselves with probing then leave. They would not return the following day until I call Maponya. Honestly if a job is not finished it should be first priority the following day right? Not at DSTV!!! Yesterday they were scheduled to come through, after I BOOKED THEM AGAIN!!!, only to get a call much later in the afternoon letting me know that they will come through today with the latest LNB because the type they installed initially was outdated due to countless factory faults they picked up from other previous customer installations.

Guess what? They came through today and still the problem persists. It is now suspected that the primary decoder is at fault and worse case scenario I will have to pay to have it swapped... The decoders were then taken to Jabulani Mall and returned with both decoders and nothing has changed after reconnection. R700 is what I could now pay to have the primary decoder replaced and what happens if nothing changes still?

My question is; what is it that I have paid for when the Check and Rectify call out could not resolve the problem? CHECK AND RECTIFY!!! What is that I have paid for when the advised installations that were done could also not resolve the problem? My father, a pensioner, who is the account holder is running out of resources fast, trying to solve this problem running up and down and still no progress in 5 DAYS???.

So these are the names of the people that I have spoken to from Maponya and one technician I met at home with a few others I spoke to trying to solve the problem.

The guys at Maponya Mall Sarah the Manager, Bongani, Bashimani, Thato.

The technicians Leonard, Monde, Jonny Banda.

I actually appreciate everyone who has truly tried to help but how many people will it take to have this fixed???. The entire Multichoice office in Randburg maybe.

Or maybe never cause I will run of resources and won't even have resources to get in touch with DSTV?

Or maybe after the old man dies on his way to the service centers?

May God Bless DSTV!!!

Reviewer Update

Good Morning Dinah,

The installer did manage to come through on on Sa****ay as scheduled. He had decided to take the primary decoder himself for checking, to which we declined as it would be an inconvenience to do so over the weekend.

He then said he would then return on Monday to collect the decoder which he did and has promised to have returned today. My dad who is at home was called by one of your guys to say that they would be replacing the LNB again.

I just spoke to Jonny who has tested the decoder and has found it faulty, this is the same decoder that had went through to Maponya on Tuesday and was found to be in good working condition.

This means i will possibly have to part with R700.00 to have the faulty decoder exchanged, after having paid R350.00 for the check and rectify call out and R1000.00 for the SMART LNB not to mention the resources that have been spent trying to get help.

After we spoke on Sa****ay I decided to do a little homework of my own and am of the opinion that I have been taken for a ride by the installers who wanted to make a quick buck and maximize their cash in. As I checked on your website I found possible installation options and am certain that I am a victim of sorts.

I have since accepted that whatever the price I will have to pay to "fix" this I will pay just to ensure that my dad has peace of mind once again, even if that means that I must end up financially stranded.

Thank you Dinah for your concern and LOVELY service, I appreciate you trying to help me but it does seem that both our hands are tied and I have accepted that Multichoice DSTV has failed me in many ways than one.

I will wait for any feedback that will be delivered to my doorstep but we both know it's only gonna go downhill from here. Once again THANK YOU ever so much for trying to help, much appreciated.
