I recently got myself a DSTV account - my understanding is that this is a prepaid service which means i pay before i watch and if i do not do so they cut me off.
I chose to not pay for the service this month and they did not switch it off. I then decided that maybe i should switch to the Easy View option as i only watch religious channels anyway. I called Multichoice to tell them i want to be downgraded to Easy View and am told i owe them for the 3 day grace period they chose to give me. I was told i need to pay them this 3 day fee first to be able to downgrade. I asked the lady to explain how i can be charged for a grace period i did not ask for and she told me to read my contract - when i asked where on the contract this is stated she put me on hold for 20 minutes then hung up on me.
I decided id pay the amount and called again to ask for the downgrade but spoke to a different consultant(Sethu) who told me that i wont be able to downgrade since i am now disconnected and will need to pay for the compact package i was on and then downgrade. So all in all my choices according to them is to pay for a package i dont want plus reconnection fees and then ask to be put on a R29 package after a month or not watch dstv at all. I find this unacceptable, i should be allowed to choose the package i want regardless of what package i was on before without having to give advance notice - this is after all a prepaid service.
