DSTV Customer Support is Clueless
My DSTV Explora decoder stopped showing a picture or sound, but the menus display on my TV, so I can change the channel, and the channel information appears as usual, and I can view the shows I recorded. I took it to the DSTV customer service center in Durban. The agent (at Counter #29 - she won't tell me her name) says that the HDMI connector is broken and I need to buy a new decoder. She is either lying or has no clue. If I can see the menus and recorded shows on my TV, then HDMI is working.

23 Jul 2021, 10:20A few days later I took the decoder to the Umhlanga DSTV branch, and the agent there said that the problem had to do with the input from the dish, which was a more plausible explanation. Since decoders can't be repaired, I still had to swap it for a refurbished one, but at least I got a valid diagnosis. It's possible all the load shedding is damaging decoders.
