Dstv Cares about their pockets

Today, the 4th April I took my dual view 1 to dstv for them to assist me because it gave me a bE1 error. On the morning of the 2nd April, before I left for work I was watching fast n loud on Discovery. I am saying this to point out that my subscription was fine. I get back from work and the decoder is showing this error. I tweeted dstv "cares" and they told me to try a few steps to resolve the problem, to no avail. At the centre I get told my decoder doesn't work, and to continue my "viewing pleasure" I have to basically pay R700 for new decoders. This is without even checking my current decoder. I have been a loyal subscriber to dstv for many years, barring the time I was unemployed and in a financial crisis. When I was back on my feet I paid religiously, even overpaying to continue with the service, and in essence I get told by your "wonderful staff" in a very nice way to pay extra or bend over and smile while I'm being shafted. P.S. Your Dual View 1 decoder (Apologies, I mean MY DECODER) doesn't do well against gravity, just ask your ever so helpless staff at the Randburg centre.

Apologies, today is the 4th May. I am so angry about these mugs basically telling me to sod off that I am confused about the month we're in.

Dear Shaamiel 'Loci' Moola

We understand your frustration in this regard however we stopped making dual view in a single decoder more than seven years ago as the costs to manufacture this decoder are higher, which would make it more expensive for customers. We were the only Pay TV operator in the world with a dual view decoder, so the parts and software to support this decoder became expensive.

If you had decoder insurance the damage to this decoder, would have been replaced with two new DStv HD decoders (at no extra cost, as per the conditions of the insurance).

You can, however, trade-in your active Dual View decoder at any of our service centres or agencies for a brand new DStv Explora 2 for only R1 199 (the normal retail price is R1299). This excludes installation, so please chat to your local DStv Accredited Installer about any potential installation changes required.

Thank you for your insights, please let us know if there is anything that we can assist you with in future.

Regards

Elna

Best regards,

Your response is a typical "we don't care, shut up and pay" attitude. After the years of me being a loyal subscriber, you still have the audacity to spew such a pathetic response. I've been paying you people every month with no problem, and you can turn around and tell me about your hardware expenses and how much it would cost you. I'm the one paying you practically a thousand rand every month and you have the nerve to offer me a pathetic R100 discount on a new device. Keep your standard "We are the untouchable, monopoly in entertainment and will do as we please" response and let a manager with common sense, a logical brain and a touch of humanity contact the man in the street to help.
