DSTV BILLED FOR SERVICE NOT USED

I am a DSTV customer on a pre-paid basis. I pay cash at an approved retailer to receive a subscription for that specific month. I signed up on this basis because we work away from home and do not require a permanent subscription. If I did not pay the fee for a month DSTV would 'NORMALLY' cut off access and we would not be able to view DSTV. When I required access again I would pay a R50 reconnection fee along with the premium for that month. I opened my account a few years ago, with DTSV on this basis and agreed to THESE MENTIONED Terms and Conditions. It is also widely known in the market that this is the ACCEPTABLE RULE!

I made payment on 1 September 2016 for my September subscription. We went away on business in October knowing we would not require DSTV access and knowing that DSTV would disconnect our access and that not using our subscription for October would result in disconnection. I did not pay the premium for October 2016 because I would be able to pay the reconnection fee of R50 plus the premium if and whenever I needed access again.

When I phoned on 23 November 2016 to enquire about reconnection and to arrange to make payment of the R50 reconnection fee and new premium for access for December 2016 I was informed that I owe money for October 2016 PLUS interest although my DSTV was disconnected from October and I did not use my subscription for October and I am currently still disconnected. When I asked the lady at the call centre to please explain to me why this is she told me that this is a NEW Terms and Conditions and that the rules changed and you can no longer subscribe on this basis and that DSTV charged me a premium PLUS INTEREST because I did not inform them of cancellation.

I told her that these ‘NEW’ terms and conditions was not communicated to me or agreed upon by me. She said I agreed to ‘Terms and conditions’ when I signed up way back. But these were the original terms and conditions and NOT the ‘NEW’ terms and conditions. WE (YOUR CUSTOMERS) ARE NOT AWARE OF THE CHANGES AND DID NOT AGREE TO THEM! It is also widely known fact in the market that no payment = no access and NOT:

NO PAYMENT = NO ACCESS = CHARGES AND INTEREST!!!!!

If these NEW conditions were communicated to me I WOULD HAVE KNOWN to call DSTV at the end of September 2016 and cancel my subscription or inform them that I do not require subscription for October and November and arrange to have my account reconnected for December 2016.

I WILL NOT PAY THE ‘OUTSTANDING AMOUNT PLUS INTEREST’ CLAIMED BY DSTV. I NEED MY ACCOUNT TO BE CLEARED OF THESE CLAIMED AND UNFAIR CHARGES!!!!!!

I tried to speak to a manager at the call centre but the lady informed me that there are no management available or on-site and that I need to send an email to make an enquiry to **********
DSTV: Please explain to me how personnel at the call centre is not able or management available to assist your customers with queries. Is it not supposed to be a customer CARE centre? Do you not care for your customers? Do you only need my money and not my loyalty?

I will not be bul**** by a MONOPOLY. I wish to support my local supplier and remain a DSTV subscriber but the above mentioned issue needs to be dealt with and proper communication needs to be provided to customers on MAJOR changes like these changes to the terms and conditions that HAS cost implications.
