DSTV - A monopoly taking advantage of being a sole TV service provider with bad customer care
In Nov/Dec-20 I had several !lengthy! telephonic calls and WhatsApp interactions with DSTV to resolve E37 errors and also included 2 visits to DSTV Main Offices in Randburg, 2 days in a row.
There is no option on WhatsApp to resolve E37 errors. The telephonic calls ("x technical support x") always include the same story, which I can rehe**** blind folded [without doing the "x support call x" i.e.]: - Reset - Switch off at the plug wait 10sec before switching on again - This time unplug all cables - Check your cables and dish (Take note I have 98% & 100% signal with channel 100 working perfectly) - Sorry you need to take your decoder to the branch.
Then DSTV swipe the card, then DSTV replaces the card....
So with this frustration in mind I asked DSTV to cancel my DSTV with immediate effect - No service / No pay in Dec-20. I do not think this was the case however;....
In Jan-2021 I thought I will give DSTV another chance. Only because they the "sole provider sitting with a monopoly in providing a TV service in the country. If this was not the case I would have gone to a competitor with fair pricing to all groups...
Upon arrival at DSTV on 5-Jan-2021 there was a 2 hour queue with a 'COVID tent' as waiting place. Being my 3rd time I was not prepared to sit in a queue for 2 hours as DSTV had 2 times already to fix the error at their offices in Dec-20. I asked to be seen by a manager.
A "manager" was provided after I got a little upset in requesting such and DSTV not eagerly wanting to assist in the request.
The "manager" took my DSTV sim card looked on the system and said: "Sir you have been here once in December, join the queue at the back to be assisted". I could tell from the onset that she was not willing to help and rep**** "her story is FALSE" and insist to be help, - after which she called security. Non of the other DSTV staff was willing to help, only some security ?listened? and said I must join the queue.
After a long altercation I left my PVR (& card) on the floor as none wanted to take my 'faulty PVR'. This is still with DSTV!
Taking consideration that I had to drive 2 x 25km x 2 times = 100km and DSTV support not resolving the problem I had time to think when driving back home. I stopped at macro bought a decoder for R499 upon arrival at home I called DSTV asked to remove the PVR and switch on the new decoder. IT WORKS PERFECTLY!
Suggestion: 1.) I believe DSTV requires more properly trained technicians understanding the real problems and resolving it first time rather than people just manning phones with a recipe which does not resolve problems. 2.) I also recommend DSTV to be fair in structuring the view packages to all entity groups....
