Don't fix decoder in warrant
My HDPVR developed a faulty hard drive error in January 2015 and I took it to the DSTV service centre in N1 City. At the time my decoder was still within 1 year warranty but they refused to swop it out and insisted on formatting the hard drive in stead. At the time I protested about their refusal to swop it out but my complaints fell on deaf ears. Low and behold the decoder started giving the exact same error recently and when I took it back on Friday 10th March, they told me that I must pay R600 for a swop out.

Under normal circumstances I would not mind paying for a swop out but always felt that they had just put a plaster on the original up issue rather than dealing with it properly under warranty. I now resent being told that I must drop R600 to repair the exact same issue. As I was not willing to pay the R600 for the swop out given the above circumstances, the agent formatted the hard disk again but already, 2 days laters, it is giving me the same HDD error and PVR is disabled.
Thank you for taking your time to contact us.
Some of the technical issues may require a hard drive format and not a decoder swop. Hence at that time they had to format the hard drive.
Currently, the technical problem persists and the decoder has to be swapped. If your decoder is not insured with us, it's faulty and out of warranty. You'll be required to pay the repair charge of R600.00.
