Dear Multichoice

I have been a DSTV subscriber for just over 24 months. I am disamayed by the indifference you display towards the persistent lack of signal when there is bad weather.

The disclaimer "There is no signal. This may be due to bad weather or a faulty connecton in the installation" is getting tired. It is time you take responsibility and do something about this, considering the fact that rain is a weather condition that will never cease to exist.

What are you planning to do about it if anything at all? Surely by now you should have realised this lame disclaimer is simply unacceptable considering that you do not deduct an amount from the monthly subscription fee for all the time subscribers are unable to watch their favourite show due to bad weather.

Your idea of customer service is shocking to say the least. For weeks I have not been able to watch Isibaya, It's Complicated, and the Idols season that recently ended due to your inability to ensure that television viewing is accessible when during rainy weather. Furthermore, your dish also gets affected when a tiny bird lands on it.

You seem to expect subscribers to accept the fact that they cannot watch television when it rains. What I find more interesting is the fact that the channel that gets affected the most is the one that targets Black viewers. Why is that? Or do you not consider us valuable enough? You make millions worth of revenue through Black viewers so I suggest that you step up and start treating us with the respect we deserve.

You are breaking your contractual obligation each time you fail to ensure that viewers are able to watch channel 161 when it rains.

At this stage good old inexpensive SABC is a more viable option. You charge exorbitant subscription fees and you subject viewers to excessive "repeats". The least you can do is ensure viewers are able to watch their favourite shows.

We would like to thank you for your honest feedback regarding our products and service.
Please be aware that rain fade can occur due to weather at reception of signal or at the source causing rain fade. You shouldn’t experience any problems with your signal if the sky is overcast or if there is drizzle or normal rainfall. If you’re having problems under these circumstances, please have the decoder tested at the nearest MulitChoice branch or agency.
Furthermore, if your dish isn’t optimally installed or properly fine-tuned, and you should contact a DStv Accredited Installer to rectify the problem.
We recommend that your dish size be 80cm on Ku-Band. Signal interruptions may occur during heavy downpours – this is unfortunately a feature on all satellite systems worldwide. Rain fade affects customers in two key ways:
1. Firstly, satellite signals become weaker as they pass through raindrops. This is a law of physics that is, regrettably, beyond our control (and which no satellite company in the world has been able to get around).
2. Secondly, the location of the storm is important. Even though the storm may not be in your area, storms in other locations (basically, any place where our signals originate and transmit to and from) can still affect your signal. Investing in a larger dish may also help prevent some signal loss.
Visit the DStv Facebook page for tips on what to do when the rain just won't go away.
We understand that you find repeats frustrating. Please note that MultiChoice does not schedule channel programmes but buys ready-made local and international channels. Each channel schedules new and recurring programmes according to a programme or movie's license specification. MultiChoice arranges the channels into DStv packages and broadcasts the channels.
The other main reason programmes are repeated is to give our customers a chance to see something they might have missed. Or to record on their PVRs a show they might have missed. Different channels have different levels of repeats – a kids channel will repeat far more shows than a channel like M-Net. Different channels also cater for our customers on the different DStv packages – DStv Premium customers will see content that they had access to a few months ago, repeated later on channels that are open to customers on other packages like DStv Compact.
