Our DSTV account is paid by debit order every month. No payments have ever been missed. Suddenly last week we were disconnected over an alleged R1415 outstanding. I looked on line and this amount is shown as outstanding bur when I request a statement it reflects a credit of R99. I called and was reconnected as they were unable to understand the issue from their side. It was confirmed that no payments were ever missed. Then yesterday we were once again disconnected, the outstanding balance now having grown to R1470. I called and was promised that someone would call me back. When this did not happen, I again called late yesterday afternoon. The consultant was not prepared to listen to me, simply stating that I must have either short paid or missed a month. I tried to explain that the debit order is in their hands as the set the amount, so it was impossible to have short paid. I also tried to explain that the amount does not equate to one months premium so the missed payment is very unlikely. In any case he then decided that this is a long outstanding amount and that many sms's had been sent. I asked him to give me details of these. He read a couple to me which were all to the effect that we remind you that a debit order of R900 odd will be deducted on the 28th of the month. No mention of outstanding R1400 until we were disconnected last week. He was unable to tell me how this amount suddenly arose but did say that he would email me a statement, which has not happened. He also at a stage suggested that this amount arose prior to 2017. This seems unlikely as I'm sure we would have been contacted before now. Shocking service to say the least. No wonder customers are dropping DSTV as quickly as possible.
