I am really concerned that the owners of older PVR decoders are being manipulated / ****med into upgrading, either by Multichoice or On Air TV. Either software was built into the decoders to cause this (like iPhone) or it is being manipulated remotely? Nearly every evening, in prime viewing time, my decoder goes off and re-scans about 4 times, just before or after the hour. It takes 10 to 15 minutes to rescan, so we can’t watch the end and beginning of programmes! It usually starts just after 17:00 and ends at 20:00. The same thing happens to my mom and her decoder is about as old as mine. Recently someone from On Air TV phoned me and the 1st thing she asked is if my decoder does this, then she tried to get me to upgrade. Multichoice conveniently doesn't know about this problem, They tested my mom's decoder and found nothing wrong with it! Really?? So despite paying insurance every month she will have to pay for a new decoder and I am sure the same will apply to me. At this stage I cannot afford a new decoder so I am living with this frustration every night! The interesting thing is that from the 8th of December 2017 to the 2nd of January 2018 this did not happen once to my decoder, but promptly at 18:00 on the 2nd of January 2018 this started again. Makes me think that the person who manipulates this was on leave???

It is understandable that you are frustrated with the rebooting of your decoder. However, this is a direct result of your decoder not been able to keep up with all the advances and upgrades that has taken place on DStv platform.
The reason why your decoder reboots more during prime time and special events is that a lot of information is broad cast out during these events and your decoder just cannot handle the influx of information.
It is for this reason that we advise our SD PVR decoder users to swap out their decoder to prevent the frustration that you currently experiencing.
We have different option available to you. Please click on the attached link http://campaigns.dstv.com/explora/sd-pvr-trade-in/ and select the one option that best covers your viewing needs.
Once again please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience you may have experienced in this regard.
