Debit Order Drama

My husband had a contract with DSTV for the premium package with our own explora and an HD PVR 2Pas extra view. I decided that I wanted to get a second extraview for my daughter and was told that we could only do three explora decoders and couldn't use the HD PVR 2P.

I was encouraged by DSTV to get the Price Lock special as it is a fixed price and I'd get an explora with this. After thinking about this I decided to do this.

The decoder was connected on 1 February 2017 and initially I had problems with the two decoders both wanting to use the same signal, something the dstv call center seemed totally incapable of assisting with, so I had to call out a technician costing me R500 for 10 min to change the frequencies.

On 7 February an amount of R938.52 was deducted via debit order which was the package of R899, insurance of R39.52 (I had put the decoder in my name and insurance prior to 1 Febraury 2017). This was fine.

Last week, unfortunately I cannot remember exactly when I phoned DSTV to find out exactly how much would be deducted on 7 March 2017 as I was working out my budget and things were a bit tight. The consultant told me that it would be the R899 for the price lock, R35 for insurance and my box office rentals of R105. I asked her more than once is she absolutely certain that this is all that is going to be deducted. And she repeatedly assured me that it was.

Last night 6 March 2017, I for some reason decided to just check on the internet what my balance was and what would be deducted. I was shocked to see that there was R35 for insurance (that's fine), R1072.66 for my price lock (WHAT???) and my Box Office rentals. I couldn't believe my eyes.

This morning I went onto live chat to find out what was going on and the consultant was unable to help me but told me to email their price lock department and they would get back to me. I told him I needed this sorted out now. He couldn't help.

I then phoned the call centre, the consultant whose name in my fury I did not write down (but the calls are supposedly recorded) told me that there will be a total of R1212.56 deducted tonight. He tried to say that this extra amount was a pro-rata amount that was added, but if the service had already been paid in full on 7 February for the FULL month of February (1-28) how is there a pro-rata amount? Surprisingly he could not explain this.

Even if there is miraculously a pro-rata amount that should be charged, why when I phoned last week and asked more than once, more than twice was the consultant absolutely certain that the amount she gave me of R1039.00 (being insurance, price lock and Box Office Rentals) correct, am I now being charged a difference of R173.56.

I have not budgeted for this so either DSTV is going to bounce or my car insurance is going to bounce, but either way not both debit orders are going to go through AND my bank charged R100 PER BOUNCED DEBIT ORDER!!!! So on top of being charged an extra R173.56 which is NOT due, I have to pay an additional R100 for a bounced debit order!!!!

I was trying to convince my mother to move over to price lock and she refused to do so saying that DSTV always get their accounts wrong. I disagreed with her!!! And NOW SHE IS PROVED RIGHT.

EXTREMELY FURIOUS AND NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL!!!!

Not soon en ugh because the debit order will still bounce and I will still land up paying an extra R100 in bank charges for your error. My subscription is from 1 February 2017, there can be no pro-rata anything and February subscription was paid in full.
