Consumer Rights? What are they......

1. I had a phone call from DSTV informing me that the PVR Decoder I purchased has a life span and will no longer be compatible after a certain date and that I would need to purchase a new decoder or take out insurance which will then cover me for the replacement decoder.<br> <br> Is this allowed? When purchasing a decoder they do not tell you it has a limited lifespan and it is an expensive item which is invested in.<br> <br> 2. DSTV have different bouquets - but they change the channels these bouquets offer as and when they please. What about the consumer?<br> <br> Surely they have some obligation to us to keep providing what they promised us in the beginning with an annual increase which is normal?<br> <br> They use this as a \tactic"to get one to upgrade and pay more for a better bouquet. As a single mother of 2 teenagers this is just not in my budget.<br> <br> I am quite sure I am not the only person who feels this way - what recourse do we have as a Consumer/Client?<br> Which Ombudsman do I contact? <br> """

Hello Donne Holder,

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

Please note that like any other electrical item, the SDPVR decoder has a life span. It's important that we notify you that MultiChoice won't be able to repair the SD PVR decoder should it be deemed faulty. Also, these decoders can't cope with the growing number of DStv services on offer, even though they were able to many years ago. We will also not be able to continue to support the software on these decoders.

True, we do offer different DStv bouquets. Please note that MultiChoice does not schedule channel programmes but buys ready-made local and international channels. Each channel schedules new and recurring programmes according to a programme or movie's license specification. MultiChoice arranges the channels into DStv packages and broadcasts the channels. We do at times conduct a marketing research to get feedback from customers regarding our products and services.

As we're committed to providing you with excellent service, we offer our customers range of bouquets to select from depending on the cost of the package. We cannot confirm which ombudsman you can contact but you can contact the BCCSA.

Regards
Dinah
