Change of Ownership billing error
I transferred my DSTV account about 2 1/2 yrs ago. I was assured that all paperwork was received and had confirmation from the new account holder that the transfer was successful. This was also confirmed by Multichoice. I was also assured that there was no outstanding balance payable by myself once the transfer had gone through.
In June 2017 (almost 2 years later), I received a letter from SSDA Law firm stating that I had an outstanding balance that was handed over to them from Multichoice, and this had to be paid immediately. I contacted them and they explained the matter to me. I then contacted the DSTV contact centre in Cape Town and spoke to Sithabaleng on the 12 June 2017 at around 6:00pm. I explained to her the scenario and she confirmed that the error was on their end and she reversed the charges. She then assured me that the information will be handed to SSDA who will then remove my details from their records, as the matter was resolved.
Since then I have been receiving monthly phone calls from SSDA about the same issue, and everytime I have to repeat myself advising the matter was already resolved by Multichoice. They called me again today and I am really upset as to how this is being handled by Multichoice or SSDA.
SSDA informed me that I have to contact Multichoice as the case has to be sent to them to confirm that this has been resolved, in order for them to remove my record from their database.
I spoke to a consultant at the Cape Town contact centre on 3 Oct 2017 , and he advised me to email Multichoice, and that he would escalate this matter to the Finance division. I find this unaccepatable business practice. I have received no communication from Multichoice for 2 years, prior to the letter from the Debt Collectors. They cannot advise me why it has taken almost 2 years to inform me about this outstanding fee. Surely if someone does not make a payment after 3 months that should already be a red flag!
