Cancelled DSTV but was still billed
Even 1 star is pushing it. I cancelled my DSTV account on 24 February after my decoder just stopped working for the umpteenth time. The price kept on going up and the programming schedule just wasn't worth the almost R1000 per month. So I spoke to a consultant who asked if I wanted to cancel immediately or on a specific date. I asked to be cancelled as of 29 February 2020. It was confirmed as cancelled and I was told no costs would be due. Fast forward to today and a debit order of R933.50 came off my account. I called to ask why I was still being billed and was told that my account wasn't cancelled. The consultant I spoke to insisted that I hadn't called as there was no recording of my call on the system. I was obviously upset that she was insisting that I hadn't called when I did and told her that I wanted to know why my account hadn't been cancelled. She said that I hadn't cancelled it with the correct department. I told her that I don't work at DSTV and as such am not aware of the rules of the company etc, but when I as a customer call in to say I want to cancel my account and the person on the other end says they can assist then I'm not going to question whether I'm at the correct department. Anyway, she proceeded to give me a long lecture on letting her finish talking and how she wants the call to go and she was just really unhelpful and rather blaming me for not getting correct assistance. I hung up the call and first tried to calm down before calling to speak to another person who would actually help me. While I was calling DSTV, this consultant phoned on my mobile. I answered and told her that I don't want to speak to her because she wasn't very helpful and I hung up again. I was on hold with DSTV at this stage and she actually called me on my cellphone again and left this long suddenly helpful message about what she had been trying to explain to me. Even in the explanation she was insisting that I could only cancel as of 1 March. By then I had spoken to a consultant who went back and looked for the recording of my original call where I asked for cancellation as of 29 Feb and she confirmed that my account was indeed supposed to be cancelled. She said it would take a few working days for a refund and then transferred me to the insurance to cancel that as well. So why could this consultant help me when the other one gave me a lecture about how she wanted me to be on the call and how I should be quiet and let her talk. This was a really bad experience and after being a DSTV customer for 20 years this was a terrible way to end.
