Beware of DSTV's Shoddy and ********* Insurance Marketing Strategies
In August or September 2022, a marketer called me from DStv (MultiChoice) or on behalf of the company selling a burial policy. I told the caller, a mature male with an Indian accent, that I was well covered and did not need a burial policy. It took a good 45 minutes to an hour to persuade me until I yielded to the forceful argument that I would lose nothing only gain an extra help during bereavement. I had categorically stated to the caller that, I really did not need a related installment to which he said my monthly installment to DSTV would not change. Although I did not understand how, I ended up agreeing to the free extra help because it started to sound like DSTV was honouring clients who have been long with the company, especially because they would be elderly. The policy amount was very little. One could afford it if one needed extra help. The problem arose when the montlhly installment finally came. It had increased by about R250. No emails were being returned when I wrote to complain until a lady based in the JHB headquarters took my call and promised to reverse or cancel the policy and refund the money. They apologised, cancelled the policy and promised to refund the money which they did. The issue I have is with DSTV's marketing strategy. In my case, it was underhanded, ********* and coercive. I am not happy supporting the company. When you have a lot going with one such company, you end up penniless if you buy insurance for this and that. They want me to insure my decoder and I tell them no thank you and they call again and again. All I want is the picture, a compact package at a fixed cost. The marketing strategy was downright decietful and shoddy.
