Bad customer service

I am unhappy with Dstv as a previous owner of the PVR decoder with their decision to phase out the product and replacing it with the explora, my dissatisfaction was due to the fact that the PVR had a dual view mode which can play 2 different TV's, so now since i had an insurance that covered the decoder I've taken it back to their agency where i was given one Explora decoder which doesn't have that dual view functionality, and now I have to buy a second decoder,a New Smart LNB, and some more additional equipments to cater for bothTV sets.l just feel that this is unfair to us the owners of the PVR decoders since it was their decision to phase out the product they should give us the product that gives us the same functions as the PVR.

Good day Lesiba

Thank you for contacting us.

I fully understand your concern regarding the SD PVR decoder. It is important to inform you that we're also guided by the global changes of technology. Sadly, these changes would have an impact on some of the things we desire to keep for a long period.

I’m sure that you’re aware that when Sd pvr was first released, we only had a handful of channels on DStv – there are now over 100. The Sd pvr has now reached the stage where it won’t be able to cope much longer with the growing number of services. For this reason, the decoder will experience missing channels, continuous scanning, an incomplete TV guide or even freeze-ups and error messages.

Furthermore, we’ve launched a new satellite at the beginning of 2017, which positioned our channels on low and high band frequencies. Unfortunately, your decoder can only get low band frequencies. This means that our customers will be inconvenienced and lose out on any channels or services made available on high band.

Having said the above, you will need to swap it for an Explora decoder at a recommended price as the SD pvr decoder can no longer be repaired.

Please remember, the purpose is not to force any our customers to purchase an Explora decoder. As mentioned above, some of the global changes are beyond our control.

Thank you for your invaluable support.

Best regards

Dinah

Best regards,

You telling me of something that I already know and if you read my initial statement properly, I said I've already swopped my SD PVR decoder for an Explora. My problem is why do I now have to incur additional costs of buying the additional equipments like the Smart LNB, a second Explora for my 2nd TV and also pay for the installation, while I've been paying an insurance for that SD PVR decoder.
