Appalling repeating of programs on DSTV.

When are we going to get some new viewing content on DSTV? We are watching re-runs of Law and Order ******** Intent, SVU, Rizzoli and Isles, ******** minds,Chicago PD, Chicago Med, Bones, Blue Bloods etc...until we can recite them backwards!!! Often programs say NEW series but in fact it is the same repeated series just renumbered. Does someone at DSTV just reach into a box and grab the nearest series? There has to be 'new' material content in that box. We, effectively, are just paying a lot of money every month for the news. Until this week when Season 3 of Chicago PD finished-we had 3 different seasons of the same program running at the same time because season 4 and 6 are also running for the 100th time. I can't believe how disorganised DSTV is-or can I? Yes maybe I can..... Just move the content from channel to channel and hope no-one notices. Treat the SA public like fools again and give them as little as possible for their money. It is shocking. I am on Compact but surely once Premium has seen their programs 50 times, they can move some down-or do they have to watch them 500 times the same as we do?

Hi Betty,

It is with regret that we learn of the frustration and inconvenience you have experienced with our service. Please accept our sincerest apologies in this regard.

Kindly note that different channels have different levels of repeats for programmes - some of these channels also cater for our customers on different DStv packages – customers will see content that they had access to a few months ago, repeated later on other channels that are open to customers on lower packages.

Some channels also have programming block of six or eight hours. This means that the same block of programmes will repeat either four (for six hour blocks) or three (for eight hour blocks) times during the course of a day. There is also a limit on how much new content is produced every year. A single channel broadcasting 24 hours a day needs 8760 hours of content a year. In comparison, Hollywood only makes about 600 new English-language movies every year, which equates to only about 1200 hours of movies. This means that there will always be older content that plays.

Having said that, there is a lot of new content available on a weekly basis – there are never-before-seen shows and movies that premiere every week and we continuously work on sourcing new things to watch for our customers. As this is spread across many channels (and customers tend to stick to their few favourite channels), we highly recommend to our customers to use the various tools we’ve made available to find out what is on. Our DStv Now app has a great search function and TV guide, our website on DStv.com has highlights, our weekly email newsletter also contains highlights across all channels for your package. We encourage our customers to make use of these to help them get the most value out of their DStv service.

Kind regards
DStv: Hello Peter Team

Best regards,

I understand the repeats daily but I am talking about the same programs year after year after year until as I said one can repeat them backwards. The content of your channels does not 'basically' change, ever. Your repeats are also in no order-if you went through all the seasons and then back to season one it would not be as bad as when a series finishes and then the same series is repeated, or suddenly series 4 appears outof the blue. Your clearly don't get it.

You clearly don't get it. The content of your channels is the same year after year after year. I can understand daily repeats but seasons end and we get the same one start the next week or out of the blue season 4 of that series, like they picked it out of a hat. I know that content is not produced in abundance but you must have a well stocked library of content by now. It seems just easier to play the same over and over again. People around me complain all the time, and a lot are turning to Netflix. I think DSTV just couldn't be bothered. I know how to look for programs, so your advice above just doesn't wash. You can use whatever means you like to search but if it's not there, then it's not there.
