Absolute incompetence and apathy at Multichoice

Three weeks ago I app**** for the DSTV Explora on the pricelock package.

I was told that a representative from the correct department would come back to me within 24-48 hours.

3 days later I phoned and was told sorry, they would come back to me within 24 hours.

2 days later I phoned again as they still had not contacted me.

They did eventually call a full week after my initial enquiry to say that they could not help me because my account was in arrears.

I was quite horrified as I have always paid my account in time, and on checking was told that my account was in arrears to R16! I was quite rudely told that they would not help until my account was brought up to date.

So I paid in twenty rand, and waited a further 2 days to hear back again.

The next person that I spoke to was quite polite, and told me that yes, congratulations, I qualify for the package.

As my wife and I share a bank account, and it is in her name, I was told that I only needed to provied proof of banking and my ID. certified.

I duly provided that and waited.

I then received a phone call saying that they hadn't received the documents, so I sent them through again.

Once again, I found myself waiting with no communication from Multichoice. Eventually, on Tuesday this week.

19 days after the initial enquiry, I phoned again to see what was going on. Apparently they didn't have my ID.

So for a third time, I sent it through only to get an e-mail back saying thet they hadn't received my proof of banking.

To make things clear, I have been told in the midst of this coming and going that the documents have been received by the incoming call centre, which has no link to the outgoing centre that deals with the Explora.

Yesterday I phoned the call centre again and was told, great news, we have all the documentation, and we can go ahead and send through the Explora.

I expressed my concern about the lack of communication, and was assured that the Explora people would phone me before the end of the day. Guess what, they didn't.

The straw that really broke the camels back though, was this morning, when I received an email from Multichoice saying that the documents sent refer to my wife's account and not mine.

What was the point of sending through the proof of banking, certified ID, and permission from her to use the account?

I feel as if Multichoice have employed the most *********** people in their Explora centre possible to save costs on salaries whic is something of an insult to the public who pay close to R12000 per annum each for this kind of service.

I am completely at my wits end, and have been told that there is no way to get through to the Explora department, no manager that can be spoken to and no complaints line or department to express concerns.

To put things into perspective, I recently had dealings with the municipality, and had better service.

I am left feeling frustrated, furious and bewildered as to how a large multinational company can prove to be so out of tune with their customer base, and would recommend that anyone hoping to follow this path, perhaps rather investigate the possibilities of internet streaming tv.
