My wife had to have X-Rays done at Boksburg Medicross. The X-ray service is provided by Drs van rensburg and partners sa inc. She was aware that the medical aid savings was depleted and told the assistant this, but still asked that the claim be put through for tax purposes. She was told that she must pay and the claim will not be put through, she must submit the claim herself. She did this and paid R577.00 as requested. I then checked the medical aid a few days later, only to find that the claim had been put through anyway, but for R554.34. So I requested a refund. I was first told that refunds this small are not done. Then when I disputed this, I am now told "Patient was not over charged. The account was billed as a medical aid account but patient paid private. Please kindly note medical aid rates are more then private." Doesn't make sense. The amount is not the issue, simple maths, but if every patient is overcharged R23.66 and not refunded there is going to be a tidy sum lying somewhere.
