We were originally VERY impressed with Drommedaris. Their prices were good and their service seemed to be great. We spent over R60k at the store, buying new appliances for the house we were building for retirement. During this process we were helped by Andy, who showed us a 65" Hisense 4K TV. I asked him whether it ran Google TV, to which he answered yes. This was important since we wanted to set up a Google Smart Home environment and it's much easier to work within the same operating system environments during setup. We therefore purchased the TV. However, when we moved in and setup the TV we found that it ran Hisense's own operating system, VIDAA. This supports basic TV streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and SA streaming services such as Showmax, DSTV, etc. It did not have apps for others such as F1 TV. I was quite upset, so I sent an email to Drommedaris, to Andy, who said we could replace the TV. However, when I checked their site, I could not find TVs that ran Google TV natively. So we took the TV back and ran into a storm, when we asked for a refund. They said the box was torn, so we weren't returning the TV in the same condition as we received it. It was now second hand. This morning I received a phone call from someone called Anthony, who I assume is the manager. He was very aggressive. He first questioned whether I actually set up the TV. I responded that after testing, I returned it to factory settings. Then he said the remote's batteries were still in the plastic. I responded that we used our own batteries and that I'd downloaded the VIDAA app on my phone (which is a feature, since you can fo the setup using the app). He then said that the cardboard was torn, and the TV was not returned in its original condition. He also said that it was Google Smart Home compatible (when actually I'd asked for a TV running the Google TV operating system). He would not listen to what I was saying. We said that under the Consumer Protection Act, we had not received a product that was fit for purpose, and he said we should then report the issue, that they'd handled cases like this before and "knew how it worked". When I mentioned that Andy had emailed me that we could replace the TV, he said that Andy didnt have the authority to do this. I said that we, as customers, had no idea which staff member had which authority, and we saw this as an official response from Drommedaris. We then realised that whatever we said, there would be a comeback. To cool things down, my husband said we would investigate the Google Home compatibility (although, as previously said, the issue was the Google TV operating system, NOT whether it was compatible with Google Home or not). We said we would report this on Hello Peter and he said that we should make sure we stuck to the facts, or else they would take legal action. Well these are the facts from our perspective. I find it hard to believe that they would treat a customer who had spent so much money at their store, so badly. We were even prepared to take store credit, but the fact that the TV was in a torn box obviously takes precedence over a customer. Feel pretty shaken by all of this, not a great welcome to a new life for us.
