WORST MEDICAL PRACTICE EVER
Dr Peter Whitfield was my mother's last doctor, actually number 6 or 7. My mom suffered for 3 years with dizziness and blood issues - low iron, anemia and a rare blood disorder called Polycythemia Vera. She saw a multitude of Doctors, some helping with the blood disorder but after having a severe reaction to the chemo drugs she was given, she was told Dr Whitfield was an "excellent doctor"...... he was a Specialist Physician and she should make an appointment to see him, which we did.
My mom just deteriorated rapidly especially over the last year. She was given "Disprin" as one of her treatment options for the blood disorder. If you have half a brain you know Disprin shouldn't be given to seniors. She also had very low blood pressure which had her on various prescribed medications that would result in her experiencing high blood pressure. Honestly, the "treatment" was an absolute joke. They couldn't stabilize my mom but didn't really seem to care that much tbh.
3 months prior to my mother's death I phoned the offices of Dr Whitfield begging for help. My mother wasn't eating, had no appetite and she was feeling worse than ever. A month before she died she was sent for R4000+ worth of blood tests which came back "anemia". I spoke to Jill Whitfield, the receptionist and the Doctor's wife. After 5 minutes of pleading I was told "You're taking up too much time on the phone"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3 MONTHS LATER MY MOTHER DIED.
I don't know why we have to receive sub-standard care from those in the medical profession. Doctors seem to think that all patients need is a prescription but isn't a HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL just that? What is the definition of HEALTH??? I was told to go to a dietician or nutritionist if I wanted help to encourage my mom to eat. Mind-boggling. And the complete UNPROFESSIONALISM of JILL WHITFIELD is UNACCEPTABLE ON EVERY LEVEL.
For the uneducated. Health practitioner means an individual who carries on, and is registered in terms of legislation to carry on, an occupation which involves the provision of care or treatment for the physical or mental health or for the well-being of individuals.
I know 1 thing. If my call was answered, if these people cared, my mom would still be alive today!
These are my opinions based on the services and treatment of said Doctor and his wife. Written without prejudice.
