Experience with Dr. Pamela Rapiti

Dr. Pamela Rapiti is the most unprofessional uncaring person in the medical profession that I have ever met. After my encounter with her today I feel sad about SA's healthcare system. Being a so called professional she made an autistic child who severely needs help wait for 45 minutes to be seen too. The child and her mum had a 10:15 appointment and she goes on with another patient until 11 without even having the courtesy to ask the mum if it's okay to take the extra time with her so called emergency case. While all this goes on the child becomes agitated as he has to wait in the waiting room, which is normal for an autistic child. She then comes out to complain to the mum that the child is being too noisy. After being reminded that she should be professional enough to keep to her appointment times she became agitated and began screaming at the mum and I. She had the audacity to ask the mum to keep her autistic child quiet which she knows as a so called professional that this is a rather difficult task for people who are not educated in dealing with autistic children. Her screaming and rude behaviour aggravated the child even more which is rather disappointing because the child and the mum went to her with some hope of a better life. I am in utter disbelief that a so called professional who is meant to care for autistic children and help them live normal lives has no heart for a child in need. She is an absolute disgrace to her profession. We then left as she was still finishing up with her "emergency" patient. She then called the mum in again to "do the consult" but began arguing again. It is evident that she had no intention of doing a consult with the child because she began videoing the mum so she can have proof in the case of a complaint. She also refused to see the child because she was offended that she was called unprofessional for not keeping to her appointment times. This was an absolute horrific and traumatic experience for both the mum and child.
