Doctor Malpractice

I delivered my child at Netcare Olivedale under the care of the nurses at the maternity ward. During the delivery, I experienced a tear which was not identified by Dr. ND Gumata and was left untreated.

Despite informing Dr. ND Gumata of ongoing pain during my 6-week postpartum checkup, she assured me that the tear would heal naturally. However, after seven weeks with no improvement and escalating pain, I returned to Dr ND Gumata 3 months later for an emergency visit, for which I was charged R300 in cash. Dr ND Gumata discovered by that I had indeed suffered a tear during childbirth. Dr. ND Gumata then proceeded to stitch the tear, three and a half months post-delivery without prescribing any pain medication. I had to request for another consultation to receive a prescription for the pain I was experiencing.

This delay in treatment has caused me significant physical discomfort and emotional distress. During my discussions with Dr. ND Gumata, she mentioned that another patient experienced a similar issue, raising concerns about a pattern of inadequate care.

I firmly believe that Dr. ND Gumata failed to provide me with the appropriate standard of care, resulting in traumatic unnecessary suffering and a prolonged recovery process.

Dr ND Gumata continued to claim from the medical aid for the stitches done and a follow up consultations due to this negligence leading to our funds being depleted. As a result, all my medication thereafter was paid in cash.
