A Sincere Retraction of My Previous Review I would like to retract my previous review regarding Dr. J.T. de Lange’s practice. My original review, posted on 17 July, was not a reflection of Dr. De Lange’s medical care or professionalism. It was based solely on an unfortunate interaction with a member of the administrative/financial staff, whose attitude and manner of dealing with me left me feeling upset and disappointed. Since then, the practice has contacted me, acknowledged what happened, and offered a sincere apology. I truly appreciate the way they handled the matter and accepted responsibility for the incident. I also feel it is important to share a recent experience that reminded me why I have always trusted Dr. De Lange. While Dr. De Lange was on leave, I went to another ophthalmologist for what I believed would be a routine eye examination. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely distressing. After the tests had been completed, I spent only a few minutes with the doctor before being told that I had glaucoma. The diagnosis was delivered without any meaningful explanation, and I was simply handed a sticky note with the name of a laser procedure written on it and advised to go home and read about it myself. I left the consultation shocked, overwhelmed, and terrified. Given that my mother lost her sight to glaucoma, the diagnosis was deeply distressing. I was so overwhelmed that I couldn’t even think of the questions I wanted to ask. Because I have always remembered how thorough, patient, and knowledgeable Dr. De Lange is, I immediately made an appointment for a second opinion as soon as he returned from leave. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I could have made. Dr. De Lange conducted an exceptionally thorough examination and carefully compared my current results with my previous records. He physically showed me my scans, graphs, and statistics from previous visits and explained, in a scientific yet easy-to-understand manner, exactly why I do not have glaucoma. Every concern I had was addressed, and every question was answered with patience and compassion. The relief I felt at that moment is beyond words. It was as though an enormous weight had been lifted from my shoulders. This consultation reminded me exactly why I have always trusted Dr. De Lange with my eye care. His professionalism, exceptional knowledge, meticulous attention to detail, and genuine compassion for his patients are second to none. He never rushes a consultation and ensures that his patients fully understand their diagnosis and treatment options before they leave his office. I sincerely regret that my previous review may have created a negative impression of a practice led by such an outstanding specialist. While my initial concern regarding the administrative staff member was genuine, the practice has since addressed the matter professionally and apologised, for which I am grateful. Without hesitation, I can wholeheartedly recommend Dr. J.T. de Lange to anyone seeking exceptional ophthalmic care. His expertise, integrity, and ability to reassure patients during what can be incredibly frightening circumstances are truly remarkable. In my opinion, he is one of the finest ophthalmologists there is. Thank you, Dr. De Lange, for restoring not only my peace of mind, but also my faith in outstanding patient care.
