POOR COMMUNICATION

Dr Shamley has been my wife's Neurologist for over 20 years (before we had children as he guided her through the meds she was allowed to take at that stage) and is now closing his practice. She has not seen him for about 5 years and all the records that he had for her have been destroyed, so we can not take her file to a new Neurologist so that they have information on her EEG's etc. Since October last year she has tried to make appointments with him and even emailed him, but he was always fully booked and never got a reply to her email.

Surely a Dr would have a system where if he hasn't seen a client for some time and put it in a separate draw or something like that so that if the client comes back, they still have the file. Even better would be to phone the client and ask if they want to collect the file as they haven't seen the Dr for some time.

I find it unacceptable and now we do not have records to take to a new Neurologist, which is just fantastic. By law, in terms of Occupational Health and Safety Act, records need to be kept for 20 years. So a call from the offices asking if she wanted to collect my files would have been a common courtesy.

She recommended him to a friend of hers as she had high respect for him and her friend absolutely loves him as he is a pleasant person. It was a good idea at the time, but now I wonder if she should have done it at all if he cannot take time to get
