Dr D G Gerber (Anaesthetist)g

Me husband went for open heart surgery on 10 January 2023. We selected a specialist that was covered by our Discovery Delta Core hospital plan. We selected dr J P Theron, an amazing specialist. He referred my husband to dr Kaveer Sohan at Netcare Alberton. These two drs are brilliant. These drs came with their own team. We made this choice as we were covered for this hospital and drs. Unfortunately my husband died 3 weeks after the procedure. A few weeks after his death I received a call from Partners4life regarding and amount of R22618.87. The medical aid informed me that this dr charged double the allowed tariilff, they paid the other half. I mentioned to the lady that I don't understand, we chose this hospital as they were covered by our plan. She informed me that she don't know how my husband slipped through, dr Gerber normally do aneastesia for patients on classic comprehensive. I asked her if they can please give me time untill my husbands affairs were in order as I'm struggling financially, but she refused. I received an email today to inform me that they are taking legal action. I never asked this dr to write off this amount, I just asked them to give me time, but they can't even do this. Patients should take this in consideration before they choose a surgeon, you get their team no matter what and they can charge whatever they want. Nobody informed us of this, not before the procedure, not during his stay and not after. I need to mention every other dr, the******, pathologist and hospital were fully paid. Big thanks to Discovery, Dr Kaveer Sohan and Dr J P Theron, they were all amazing, I will always be thankful for what they did! The only negative was dr Gerber and his crefotors actions afterwards.
