Ill treatment and bad service
I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the unacceptable behaviour and unprofessional conduct I experienced from the two receptionists at your practice during my visits on 7 November 2025 and 11 November 2025. I believe the treatment I received was inappropriate, disrespectful, and in breach of patient confidentiality. Incident on 7 November 2025 After my consultation with Dr Cyril Parker, he instructed me to ensure that the reception desk had my email address. When I relayed this to the receptionist, she began questioning me loudly and in front of other patients about why the doctor would need my email. She commented that the practice does not take patient emails and stated that if it were for results, the doctor would need to contact me first. Her tone was rude, dismissive, and confrontational. This public discussion of my patient information was embarrassing and completely unnecessary. Incident on 11 November 2025 As instructed by Dr Parker, I returned on 11 November because I was still unwell. Upon arrival, I was again not greeted professionally; the receptionists continued their personal conversation while I stood waiting. After filling out the form, I was questioned by the receptionist (a coloured woman) about why I was there. Her tone was disrespectful, and when I explained I was unwell, she demanded to know “with what,” again loudly and publicly. I expressed that I was uncomfortable discussing my medical condition in a public space and that I would prefer to disclose it directly to the doctor. Rather than acknowledging this valid concern, she continued speaking to me in a condescending and hostile manner. She later justified her questioning by saying she was asking for billing purposes. Had this been communicated politely and respectfully, I would have understood; however, her approach made the interaction feel confrontational and invasive. When the second receptionist (the woman with cornrows) returned, the first receptionist recounted the situation but did so inaccurately and omitted her own behaviour. When I attempted to explain my side, she repeatedly interrupted me, raised her voice, and even referred to me as “this child.” The two receptionists spoke over me, dismissed my concerns, accused me of being rude, and ultimately threatened to remove me from the practice. I was then effectively chased out of the clinic while sick and left without receiving the medical assistance I came for. Concerns This behaviour is unacceptable in any professional setting, especially a healthcare environment where patients are vulnerable and rely on staff for support, privacy, and empathy. My concerns include: Disrespectful and hostile communication A clear breach of patient confidentiality Unwelcoming and unprofessional behaviour Being denied access to medical care due to staff misconduct Requested Action I am requesting: A formal investigation into the conduct of both receptionists. Assurance that staff will be trained on patient privacy, communication, and professionalism. A written response outlining how this matter will be addressed. Confirmation that I will be able to return to the practice without fear of mistreatment or denial of service. I trust that you will take this complaint seriously. I appreciate your prompt attention and look forward to your response.
