Unfairly treated!!

I will never recommend this practice.

I visited Dr Roux a few days before my wedding to simply clean my teeth. The Dr did give me a great explanation and consultation upon my visit but with all the recommendations he made he was unable to give me quotations on what he wanted to fix. I was VERY reluctant to do anything and was not in a good state of mind that morning due to personal reasons. I easily asked x4 times what the cost of all of the procedures would be as I`m on an EXTREMELY TIGHT budget and he still was not able to give me an estimate. He continued to convinced me and just for the sake of getting it done, I approved, even though I actually wanted a quote - I really didn’t think it would be R3000!! I asked if we couldn’t maybe quickly ask the receptionist to give us a quote per teeth after my approval. It was very clear that I was reluctant and was shocked after the procedure to see that I have to pay more than what I even had available in my savings account at discovery. This irritated me even more, that I actually burst out in tears because I no longer had my savings account for my chronic medication. I have also read up on the consumer protection act and the service provider should ALWAYS be able to provide a client with the cost of the service being provided, which I did not have the honour to have after asking multiple times. Basically, I was not only in a position where I could not have made an informed decision because of the Dr`s inability to give me any prices AT ALL. If I knew what the costs would be, I would NEVER have done the procedure now… and I would have waited a few months.

I feel that this visit was not treated as if I was a human being but rather to see how much money the office could make after knowing my financial position. It’s already embarrassing enough to say no thank you – but to have to say it 4 times and then just have to give in? Any reasonable man on the street will understand my frustration.
