Policy increase

I really need help my mum has a policy with dove since 1993 and she never claim today she was going to pay her pocily only to be told that her is going to lapse because the primiem have went up by 280 how can a premium go up by 100% she was paying 388 and she lost her job 8 years ago but she was still paying her policy regardless of her being unemployed now she is going to loose like that Dove this is not fair she doesn't want to lose he policy and she can't afford to pay 680 unless you give her all her premium.
